Yep, tis now all primered with the good stuff. I gave him too coats of etch primer and then then 2 coats of the 2k build primer and much more over the trouble spots. Anyways, here are the pics of Mr spridget in his new undergarments. No pics of the etch, sorry. As you can see from the photos, he still looks a bit in a state of shock /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Everything possible that could go wrong seemed to go wrong Jack, I am amazed that it came out that well. In the middle of the etch a circuit breaker tripped and everything went dark /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif and a water leak that had been driping two drops a day for many years leaked onto the plastic overhead and when I started the fans the water poured on the car. More later, I must take the wife out to dinner for a last good meal eaten with both hands before my surgery at 0730 tomorrow.

I learned many things today, about HVLP guns and ethc primer and build primer, etc. One thing to watch out for with these cheap guns is that they seem to lay down paint well, but the screw on plastic cap on top of the plastic cup that holds the paint has a little valve thing on top and this valve thing came off during the middle of painting and I did not know it and I got 4 good sized drips on the hood /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif I hav eyet to find this plastic piece but will look for it when I can, too tired for now and tomorrow will be busy. I would suggest to any who use the hvlp to tie a rag around the cup somewhere to catch any drips that might come out the top. I used to tie one around the old style paint guns where the cup screwed up the bottom just in case, but I had forgotten that lesson. My paint gun came with an aluminium cup also but I chose to use the plastic one. Also, I knew nothing of the needle sizes(and still really don't) I used a 1.4 to paint this car. This did not seem to fan out a big enough area and I had to get real close(although with HVLP you have to get closer anyways). I also had the needle and cap and stuff for the 2.0 which I figure is much bigger. I think I am going to use it for the basecoat. Oh, and that primer filler was the bomb, I wonder how long it has been around. It could cover and fill the grand canyon and its almost impossible to get a run with it. Good stuff, but you have to stay real close to the car cause it dries almost instantly.

Kim,
Looks like all that hard work is paying off. Keep up with the good writeups - I'm learning a lot about painting.

Glad that you are back at the keyboard so soon

Wanna arm-wrestle for pink slips now? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The car sure looks purty now. I always love to see it at this stage. It is the first time that everything is one color, so "it all comes back together at this stage".

Here's to a speedy recovery /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I also wish you a speedy recovery. It looks like you have had way more than your share of doctors lately. Hope to see you behind the wheel, all painted and all, soon. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Good to hear it all went well, now you just have to figure out what jobs can be done with one arm!
