Just curious, why would you do that?

I feel comfortable with 100% synthetic but have a problem with half/half blends. It just makes no sense to make a blend of oil and synthetic... you lose the best qualities of both.
But, I too am curious ? Did you not know that the oil was gone or were you in a situation where you had to keep going.
I had a situation last summer, driving from Dallas to Nashville, where I had the oil changed the day before the trip and the mechanic left the filler cap loose. I blew out most of the oil and didn't know it until I was in a traffic jam in Arkansas. There was a detour and a 2 mile line of cars going 10 to 15 MPH when I noticed the oil pressure at "zero" and when I revved the engine it would only climb up to 10 or 15. I was sweating profusely looking for the next exit and station. I checked the oil at a station and the dip stick was bone dry. Needless to say...I was lucky; no damage and no breakdown.
Cheers, Steven

What is the general thoughts regarding the use of either synthetic oils or additives such as QMI in a 1992 XJS V12 engine. I have had good experience with QMI. I had an engine lose all its oil when an external oil line blew and I continued to drive the car for an additional 60 miles with no damage.

I was comming out of Boston in rush hour traffic in a sleet and frezing rain storm when I noticed my oil pressure gauge drop to zero. In a moment of madness I said the heck with it lets see if this stuff is as good as they say. At the time they offered a warrentee against engine seazing.
After replaing the oil I ran the car for a couple of thousand miles drained the oil and had it alalized, there was not metal noted in the used oil.

The engine ran for years later witout a problem til my step-son totaled it.
