OK, all you with painting experience: Had the TR8 painted - lovely job, and very happy with it. The painter gave me the leftover base coat, in case I need to touch up. When that happens (and it will!), I don't want to have to depend on going back to the painter, and would like to do it myself. How about some instructions from some of you as to what to do when the time comes?

If not this product your looking at a little 1500 to 2000 grit sandpaper, some wax, silcone, grease cleaner/remover. and a very fine finger nail brush. lightly sand only the area that was struck by the object. Then apply liberal amounts of wax, silcone, and grease remover with a clean non abrasive cloth. I use PPG DX330 wax and grease remover. Let the DX330 dry and then apply a very thin application of paint with the fine brush to the area. Wait for the paint to dry on each coat and build up to finished level or slightly above. Depending on how good you are with the sandpaper you can use 2000 sandpaper and sand it back down to finished paint grade and then blend it in with various types of polishing compunds with very fine grit. The compounding materials I use are 3M microprill polishing compound and 3M swirl mark remover which is specific to car colour. At best your filling a hole that will prevent the metal from rusting. With practice you can hide your dings from most untrained eyes but you will always know it's there. Try to only work in the area of the ding or you will be expanding your problem.
