Was this a pain to prep and paint. I am sure glad it is almost done. Just one more coat of red to go.

Paint alone will not seal a seam, so to keep moisture out and help prevent rust, I used a seam sealer. The seams on the car were originally sealed with a tar based sealer.

The seam sealers I am using do not recommend application over bare metal, so under the dash I cut in the seams with a paint brush, then applied the sealer. I did not do this on the floor and rear deck (but could have). The first coat of red went down, then I sealed the floor and rear deck and will give the whole cockpit a second coat and it is done.

Looks good, Ray. Have you considered putting anything <span style="text-decoration: underline">inside</span> your rockers? I actually opened up both ends of my rockers with a 1 1/2" hole saw and coated the insides with rust encapsulator paint, then plugged the holes with giant rubber grommets and sealed them in with undercoating.

Always nice to seen underneath a dash board and be able to really paint this area. Sometimes I wish I had done a body-off resto. Sometimes.

Interesting. New floorboards don't come with jack holes anymore. My Heritage floors did, but I make plates and welded them over. Like I need another hole......

Bill, My new floor panels came with jack holes, and I too welded them closed. On the passenger side, the wife's high heels (yes some woman still wear them) would always punch out the plug.

As to coating the inside of the rockers, I had to replace them so all is well.

And you did not miss anything by not doing an off frame restore. If it were not for the floors and rockers I would not have done it.
