Securing Springs For Convertible Top MK II

My 62 MKII came to me without the springs that are supposed to help with the raising and lowering of the convertible top. I can clearly see where one end of the spring connects to the hinge area, but I be darned if I can find a bracket down below to attach to the body.

There are two flanges on the inside of rocker panels directly below the springs (triangular shapes with a hole in it), but the amount of tension on the springs to secure them there is enormous... makes me think those flanges were for seat belts or something else.

Can anyone advise me on this...

Jersey,

You found the other end, It is stronger than it looks. I have had my bj7 for 46 years and the triangular flanges never flinched over all those years. No rust there I hope. By the way my healey lived most of it's life in northern NJ. Purchased new in Montclair.

I have many parts, if you need somethingI may have it.

I forget which way now, but it is easier to fit the springs if the top is in the up position (or is it down...?).

Thanks for the input...I see part of the problem...the springs I got from Moss are 11 inches and the one original I had is 14 inches (some it due to wear and tear).

Has anyone ever used the Moss springs before? If I manage to get them installed they will be a time bomb if they ever snapped off.

Any other tips on how to install them would be appreciated...top up is definitely the way to go...now how to hook the springs into place with 100 pounds of pressure tugging the other way!!!

Thanks

Take the springs to a good old fashioned hardware store and they'll find a replacement for half the cost. Make sure they measure the tension correctly. Not sure if the manual tells you the proper tension or not. I was able to secure the springs on the bottom first then lever up to the top with a notched bar. If I recall it wasn't that difficult, but I did have the interior out of the car. Might be easier to pull out the side panels first. Don't think it's original but the previous owner used an "S" hook to aid in installation.
