Rubber Bumper repair question

What do you use to repair the scratches and dings in a rubber bumper? Lets say a ding is about an eighth of an inch deep. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif Please dont tell me Bondo. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif PJ

Kenny, The reason what I said about "NO Bondo" was I'm not sure of the bonding effect it will have on the material that was used to make the bumper. Bondo and simular materials were mostly designed to mate up to metal. I assume you have used it to repair a bumper and it's holding up. Right? PJ

I haven't but others have... If cleaned really well of all the greasy protectants, the bondo should stay put no problem. But, I'm sure someon here that's actually done this will chime in soon. Tony, what do you put on the bumpers to smooth 'em out?

I use "spackle"...the stuff body shops use for the final little touchups before paint...comes in tubes...various colors...black is one...smooth it on, sand with fine grit, paint with rattle can! Lasts forever!

I used a type of goop I found at Sherwin Williams specifally for repairing urethane bumpers to fix a crack in the nose of a 73 Vette....I am not sure if the urethane stuff will work on MGB rubber but it might, or maybe they'll have something else for it.

Spackle, That's easy! I'm trying to fix up a bumper for a friend. I think he wants to paint the bumpers to match the car color. Not factory, but they do look sharp painted that way. PJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
