removing rear rubber bumper

I need to remove the rear bumper so I can get the lower body repainted. I tried removing the three nuts as per Haynes, then pulling and jerking at the bumper, then running the nuts part way on the bolts and pounding a bit with a 2 pound hand sledge, (nuts protected by hardwood). Couldn't get it to budge. What am I doing wrong? Too small of a hammer? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif Need to borrow a gorilla? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or is it something else?

Any ideas will get careful consideration,

Darn it, I already had my seven pounder out. What's the fun of dismantling a car if you can't use heavy equipment?

Thanks a lot, Rampant. I'll try it your way.

Glad you are back. I just had another steroid shot in my knee and will take it easy for a few days, so no hurry. Get the other guys stuff out first if you want.

Seven nuts removed and the bumper came off without a hitch! Thanks for the help, Rampant. I have cleaned up and fixed a couple of dents I couldn't get to readily before.
