Here's one for our expert panel -
I removed the front bumper from my 76 B today. Top 2 bolts came off as easily as if I had just installed them yesterday. [luring the sucker in....] the bottom 2, however, were another story. after an extended application of Nuts Off, I was able to free the passenger side nut. However, when I removed it, I found that the nut had not come off, but rather the whole double-ended bolt had come out of the bumper. No big deal, I thought. Moved to the driver's side, finally got the nut turning, but then after a few turns, it was just spinning. Apparently I broke the weld between the nut and the bumper frame. Had to use the hack saw to remove it.
So the burning question is, will I now have to remove the rubber from the steel bumper frame in order to weld in a new nut? (I'm pretty certain the answer is yes there.) AND, is that done by simply drilling out the rivets along the underside of the bumper, or is there some deviously crafty attachment method that I can't immediately see?
Any help would, as always be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
