Rubber bumper renewal??

Have any of you ever used a bumper coating such as the one Duplicolor puts out? Since "Woodstock" is still in the shop awating new paint, I figure now might be the time to do something since they've already taken everything off. They're not in bad shape but I know new paint will show the defects in everything else.

Any comments/suggestions for that product or another to freshen up the bumpers? I used Mother's and it seems to do well but wondered if there are others out there.

Have you thought about painting them body color?

I think I'd really rather keep them black but the painted bumper thing does look good.

I use Mother's on mine too. I think at some point they were painted, without being sanded. My winter project is to take them off, use a power sander on them to get them nice and smooth, and then have mgdoc paint them with 'bumper paint' for me. I could do it myself, but he's in the business and I don't have to worry about drips and runs that way!

I saw several rubber bumpers at the show in Michigan with bumpers painted the same color as the car. The darker the color, seemed the better it looked. (like aerog's) In my opinion, it just looked awful on the lighter-colored Bs.

Good question, I was also wondering how well the bumper paint looks, if anyone has done it please post pics......thats usually one thing we don't have to worry to much about in Canada; faded bumpers....both canadian MGB's have perfect bumpers, the one from florida is a mess

I use canned "foaming tire" cleaner on my bumpers... spray it on and forget it... keeps my bumpers black...looks ok.

I have used the Duplicolor bumper renewer paint and it looks great. Time will tell how it holds up as it has only been on for about two months.

Looks like your B is also Inca Yellow! There are four of them in Nashville within a three mile radius or so of me...not a color you see everyday.

Was the Duplicolor easy to apply and did you sand the bumpers before you put it on? AND, what was the finish like once you applied it?

I washed and rinsed the bumpers being very careful to not leave any soap residue, wiped dry then waited a few hours to be sure there would be no moisture. Shook the can and sprayed. No sanding was needed and they came out looking great! I thought I might have some imperfections showing through but did not.

Thanks! I'm still debating about doing that. It sounds good but I just wondered how well it worked.
