Right Hand Drive

I've noticed a number of you drive RHD cars. I'm just curious how different / difficult it is to drive a RHD car in a country where everyone else is driving LHD. No, I'm not planning on an RHD conversion for Baby Blue, but each time I see an RHD car, I do get curious.

It makes using the drive-through at McD's a PITA, although the others in line will be amused when you do it in reverse!

Took me about a day to get used to the RHD MGB. Shifting wasn't too hard, just took a little practice to get smooth. Biggest issue was lane placement; I found myself either too close to the center line or too close to the outside for a few days until I got used to it. Drove that car for 3 years, loved it. Only sold it when my current RHD Bugeye came along and I needed to make room.

And I haven't been through a drive-through in at least 15 years in any car, so it was never an issue for me.

The Elan is RHD, and as johntennyson hints the major issue is getting through gates, whether card-controlled, keypad, even manned gates where the person on duty is reluctant to walk around the car.
That apart, the Elan is so small you don't really notice the other issues with passing and rear-view limitations, especially with the top down.

I've had several and still do have a couple; a Mini that I sold a couple years ago, and currently have 2 RHD Morris Minors. I plan to convert one of my Bugeyes to RHD, so I'll have one of each... :eagerness:

The worst problem I have with driving a RHD car is that after even a brief time driving one, I tend to go enter the wrong side when I go back to my daily driver... :highly_amused:

I'd do that all the time -- drive the MGB for a few days, then get in the wrong side of the daily driver. Also, turn signal on the MGB was on the right of the column, so once back in the daily driver -- need to make a turn, on go the windshield wipers.

Many years ago (in 1963) I had a girl friend who had a first generation RHD MGB. I drove the car on occasion and the only goofy thing I ran up against was most every time I went to shift from second to third I would open the door as the handle was positioned "just right". Bob
