Question about silicone sealers

Does anyone have any experience using silicone water sealants along the front dog leg to retard water entry?
You know, the type which comes in one of those cream-dispenser type tubes?

I'm not familiar enough with MG bodywork to comment on the specific seam. However, I try to use seam sealer instead of silicone. RTV (silicone in a tube) will not accept paint.

I think your talking about the seam between the rocker and the quarter panal, below the rear corner of the door. If so, then dklawsons reccomendation is good. The RTV dosen't have the adhesion to stay in the seam forever, and it'll start peeling out soon. The seam sealer will stay in there for good, and you can paint over it. (it's also available in a squeeze tube at the auto paint store)
If your talking about the seam between the front fender and the rocker, at the bottom of the front edge of the door, then I personally woulden't use any sealer on that. That's a bolt on part, and I would be concerned with trapping water in behind there. There are lots of places on the front fender where water can get in so it needs to be able to get out.

I'm talking about the dog-leg shaped seam on top, between the front guard panel and the cowl - this one (with the black box around it). There's a leak when it's raining through this seam (I think) onto my leg!

ps. this oldie isn't my car, just a 'net pic I found!

Look for 3M Automotive Seam Sealer Part #08370 (grey) #08369 (white) at about $15 - $16 for a foil packet. The "Fast n Firm" 3M cartridge tube for about $10 might be nice to have too. (Part #08505)

OOOOOOOHHHH! ok. I know which piece you mean now. Does it still have the bead piece, or has that been removed. My dads MG is missing one (fiberglass fender thanks to P.O.)
Either way, definatly go with the 3M stuff.
Those don't commonly leak unless the fenders have been removed at one point.
Take a close look at the rubber seals at the base of the windshield posts and the seal across the base of the frame. these are notorius leakers.
For these you can carefully pry up on the seal and squeeze some clear silicone underneath then wipe any access off before it sets up.
Best of Luck Guv'na
