Paint for Garage Floor

After many years of procrastinating, I have finally decided to paint my garage floor.

I would appreciate any advice on what type of paint to use and any other tips.

What is the finish now? Because preparation is the key.....If it is unfinished concrete you will need to clean it with acid wash to etch the surface before applying the paint.
The better material out for those kind of applications are usually two part so it bonds to the floor. Epoxy Paint
The killer for these is about a two day turn around where you have to empty your garage for prep time and curing time.

Another alternative is to cover it with a nice snap together floor tile. this company has a lot of options in coloring as well.... Floor Tile

I used a epoxy 2 part paint. Main thing is to prep the old concrete first. I acid etched and power washed the floor twice. The finished floor came out great and after three years it has held up great. I think I bought the floor paint from sherwin willams.

I purchased the concrete floor paint from Lowe's and followed the directions on the cans. Since my floor was new, I didn't have to remove any grease or oil spots. The floor looked great for about a year, and then I started getting dark spots everywhere on it. The paint was an epoxy based paint. Needless to say, every time I look at the floor, its a big disappointment and was a waste of time and money. The paint was suppose to be resistant to just about everything. I suggest you do a lot of research before making a purchase.

Prolly moisture, takes concrete a minimum 28 days to cure.

www.spartanchemical.com makes a very nice product called New Generation 100 Epoxy floor coating. They also make a 40% epoxy that is less expensive product for lighter duty.

Did you install a vapor barrier before pouring the concrete?

I've used the water based epoxy they sell at Griot's Garage and it works great.

Be sure to order more than they say you will need though. If you calculate 2 gallons, get 4. One coat is not enough.
