JC, and Morris. It's permissible to mix sizes on the thrust washers to get to the required dimension. For instance, with standard washers, and .011" float, use a standard size at the front, and a .005" oversize at the rear, and you are down to the required .006" minimum float.
As I remember, the standard size is .090" thick.
Morris, a dial indicator and a stand with a magnetic base is a tool you really should have for any engine build. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive for general use. One of the local tool supply places should have them for under 30 bucks. Or less.
