Needed - 3-point Seatbelts

Hi all,

As I understand, NJ requires 3-point seat belts for children 8-years and older to be able to ride cars like my Healey. Since my granddaughter is approaching that age, I would like to find a source for 3-point belts with the proper fitting for my BJ8’s shoulder belt attachment.

For those unfamiliar with the BJ8 shoulder belt attachment, there are 2-bolts on each side that extend through the rear wheel well and backseat side panel that are capped by acorn nuts. The shoulder attachment consists of a belt end plate with 2-holes that are secured by these bolts.

Although I am not sure that 3-point belts are safer than 2-point belts in a car with low-backed seats, the law is the law.

Thanks and all the best,

Ray (64BH8P1)

Hi Rick
How do you fit inertia reel belts to a Healey given there's no real door pillar to fit the upper belt slide to. also, does the Moss unit have the double bolt inner wing fitting for the car?

Thanks to all that responded. Sorry for my slow response as I was committed to the Positive Earth Drivers Club show ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68112t54zEA ).

First, I investigated a number of seat belts offered within and outside the US. For those belts which portending to be accurate or close to accurate reproductions, the prices ranged from $350 and up for a set. Based upon the cost of original type belts and my intent to only use the 3-points when my granddaughter is in the car, I think the Victoria British 3-points, at a price of $35/set is a more prudent choice.

I appreciate the assistance all have extended.

All the best,
Ray (64BJ8P1)

Ian,

Looked at the Moss catalog and couldn't find them, but they are in the British Car Specialists catalog. I believe the reel is attached to the original mounting points on the inner wheel arch.

Hi all,
Thanks for the nice comments on the show. Please come and join us next September 17th for the next.

Back in 1989, all marquee clubs were locate either in North Jersey or in the Philadelphia area and would require a significant drive (distance and traffic) to attend a meeting. On a casual drive in the Central NJ shore area one day, I encountered 4 different LBC owners doing the same thing. During each conversation, frustration was voiced that there was no British car clubs located in the area. Two weeks later we got together and decided to start the Positive Earth Drivers Club. Over the years the club has grown from the initial 5 (2-big Healeys, 1-Sprite, 1 MGA, 1 Aston Martin) starting members to well over 100 active, and I mean active, members. As the last active original member, I am always impressed that the club has not only survived, but thrives with new members at each meeting.

All the best,
Ray (64BJ8P1)
