Morning death ride.

Went for an intense ride this morning in a Sprite with one of my wrench buddies. Scorched through some lonely back road twists in his dialed in 59 with a built 1275 whining like a fiend. Goodness gracious! Got to drive it on the return pass, plenty of go and it fit like a glove. O.K. you win. Now I want one. --elrey--

elrey, great fun!, and i understand but must admit that in my early years of motor-eyesed vehicle exposure with lots of time inna right seat demanded the uncontrolled howels of a 5th grade school girl, only time that happens now is when my wife is driving. :cryin:

In my mis-spent youth, I drove my first car over Orega Highway at 2330, and never got below 90.
Wards Riverside 500's.......great tyres for the job.
I won't tell you the car, but it waren't British nor a General Misunderstanding.

Did you mean the  Highway???---Ortega!!! :frown:

WOT!!!.....

The Ortega Highway is deemed one of the most dangerous roads in the USA! Many people have been killed. It is temporarily closed due to extensive weather damage.

I have been there many times but I did not do 90!!! :nonod:

Re: Morning death ride.

My first car was a 1962 Sprite, bought used in 1967 for about $500 and to this day still the most fun car to drive I have ever owned ! Sold it to a frat brother who proceeded to run the trans dry - leaked a tad !- and believe he junked it after that. Like driving a large go kart ! Got me hooked on LBC's and now just as happy driving my BN6 and listening to that deep throaty exhaust note !!!
Great memories,
Mike

A Sprite with 130 HP? All perfectly SCCA-legal, I'm sure!

Not even close. I remember the year when the winner of H production was disqualified at the run-offs because he had intake valves that measured ever so slightly larger than what the rules allow. It turns out they were stock valves. Because they were stock, he didn't bother to measure them. The port opening was no different, but they took away his trophy. Maybe this car is in Special Class.

And now for the rest of the story.............This car/drive combination was the 2008 SCCA NORPAC VP1 Champion. I was not involved with tech, but it did compete in enough races that if there were issues someone would have complained.
In 2009 while defending the championship the car was totaled at Pacific Raceway Kent, WA. Racing in heavy NW rains, the car hydroplaned and hit the concrete barrier at the kink down the front straight sending car and drive into
multiple spins.
Driver has recovered, car has not.

Sadly the steering wheel's on the wrong side :frown: :jester:

Not a problem. It's an easy switch to a right hooker with a new steering rack and dashboard. Reid could ship it out to my place in Boston and I could "store" it for a few months until race season is over and I could forward it to you.
