Moisture barrier between door card and door?

I'm installing new door cards on my '70 MGB and need to find something to use as a moisture barrier between the new card and the door metal. My manuals show some sort of a plastic sheet should be there, but my car had nothing.

I've read a variety of suggestions, including just using material from a heavy-duty black trash bag.

Any ideas/suggestions here?

Any strong plastic sheeting will work fine. I used the bags in which my new door panels were shipped, and glued them to the backs of the panels; heavier than the black trash bags, and more durable. That way, if I ever I need to remove them to work on the door, I won't have to redo them.

Modget is smaller but I found duct tape in 8 1/2 x 11 sheets

I like the idea of gluing the plastic to the panel. That'll work.

As for 8-1/2x11 sheets of duct tape, I'm imagining one huge roll of duct tape! :grin:

I'd stay away from trash bags. They are designed to bio-degrade, and will do so even if protected from sunlight, etc.

I use leftover painter's plastic dropcloth.

Drew, just a suggestion, but I would use a little heaver material than drop cloth. Semi clear construction plastic works very well and will last for years. Attach it as necessary and your in. Just a note, the adhesive on some tapes deteriorates over time and looses its grip. PJ

Thanks again all for the suggestions. Got some heavy plastic and used 3M spray adhesive to attach it to the door cards. Should do the trick for some time to come.
