TR4/4A Is there a difference between the "Body" number and the Comission Number?

I am filling out the request for a heritage certificate and it requests the Chassis/VIN Number, Engine Number and Body Number. I have the first 2, but wonder if there is a Body number as well.

Thanks for your help!

On my TR4 it is on a tag riveted to the flat area forward of the firewall on the right hand side (LHD car):

As you can see from Geo's body tag, the body number ends in CT where as the Commission Number begins with CT. The body number is usually within a few hundred of the Commission Number.

MY 1962 TR4 has a body number that is approximately 550 higher than the Commission Number.

Yeah, 'usually'. My commission number is more than 7000 higher than the body number (and an even greater spread from the engine number). All confirmed as original per the BMIHT.

That's the "body in white" number ... applied by the body maker before paint and assembly.

It's automotive manufacturing lingo meaning when the body tub is finished being welded together and before paint is applied and any panels are bolted on. You can probably find a better description on Google or Wikipedia.

The number welded to the left inner fender well is not related to the Body Number or Commission Number.

There is usually a similar number tag on the front frame cross member that has nothing to do with Body or Commission Number either.
