MG midget Clutch slave cylinder

Hello Gentlemen
I'm in the process of finalising a Frogeye with a 1275 Midget engine and gearbox. The whole kit and caboodle is installed in the car. I have discovered that the Midget 1275 setup with the ribcase box needs a one inch clutch slave cylinder to be in any way civilised in operation. Unfortunately I had fitted a 7/8 inch bore slave. When I came to change it to the one inch, I find that I cant fit it because the engine back plate interferes with the fluid hose inlet on the one inch slave, whereas, the 7/8 inch has a canted hoseinlet which clears the back plate. My question is, does anyone know of a one inch bore slave with a fluid inlet like the 7/8th inch unit? The photo shows the 7/8" slave in position with the backplate it has to clear.

The one inch slave has an inlet straight into the rear of the slave.
The reason that the back plate interferes is that it is a 1098 version, for which the 7/8 inch slave is suitable. On the 1275 plate the back plate is relieved in the area of the slave inlet.

Fabricate a spacer to fit between the new slave cylinder and ribcase so it will clear the rear plate.

I'm guessing if you find the clutch uncivilized, that you are using the original 7/8" master cylinder. I have no idea if you have also upgraded to disc brakes, but that should accompany the upgrade to the 1275. If you have upgraded to disc brakes, you should be using a 3/4" bore master cylinder, which would also allow you to be just fine with the 7/8" slave. In any event, why not recreate the relief in the backplate if you want to stick with the setup you have? A Dremel with a burr or an angle grinder would make quick work of it.

That's how I did it. Used a Dremel to flatten it out so I could install a Smoothcase Tranny in my '68 behind a 1098. I used a 1275 Slave along with the Rubber Hose and terminated the hard line on the special coupler only available via MOSS. Worked fine for 10 years no issues.

Oh and cut the top of the ear off of the slave to make it easier to mount. Leave a slot for the slave to fit under a bolt.

Related question: Bugeye upgraded to 1275 eng/tranny/clutch with front disks and 3/4 inch master cylinder (1098 style dual cylinders). So 1" or 7/8 inch slave? If both work, what would be the difference and what length slave rod should be used?
