Luggage Rack Straps

Does anyone out here know how (or if) the TR6 option ever offered the starps to go with the luggage rack? I bought enough leather to "install" straps, but can't find any photos or other documents as to how the "factory" straps were attached. Any help would be appreciated!

I made my own out of belts I bought at The Walmart. But obviously not a "factory setup".

My dad does a lot of custom leather working and made mine up for me. Roofmans approach is probably easier. My are a light tan to go with the cars color a little better. No pics tonight. Awful cold out in the garage and I'm feeling lazy.

Don't believe there were "factory" straps for these as most were dealer installed items.

Leather straps will look way cool... but for high-speed all-day driving they may be less than practical. For that I use (nylon?) strpas with snap together buckles and adjustable lengths. These can be made very tight and the resulting tension in the slightly stretched strap keeps the luggage in place. Be careful to of any loose strap that might vibrate or flap against paintwork.

The leather straps will strectch a bit and if you don't have 'tongue keepes' they can flap at speed.

Geo brings up a good point.

Good Point about the stretching properties of leather. I think a little bouncing will stretch them more and more. A bungy cord might take out some potential bounce and keep the straps tight. I'd also be looking for a way to keep the load from sliding from side to side. A bungy might kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

The solution may be modern stretchy straps for travel switching to the nice leather for show.

I use 2 straps, one front-to-back and the other sideways. Haven't lost the suitcase yet.

There was never a factory luggage rack for the TR6. Several after market companies supplied Triumph dealers with a variety of racks. Some were small universal racks. Others were, IMO, large and gaudy The original Amco rack was designed specifically for the TR6. This is the rack you see in the big 3 catalogs. Except now they offer it in stainless.
As far as I know the Amco rack was the only popular design that featured the strap loops.
Since the racks were optional so to is the choice of straps.

This mostly what I do now. I carry the straps in the boot but don't alwys drive with them in situ.
