Luggage Rack recommendations

I wanted to install a luggage rack on my BJ8. I am considering the one that Cape Sports sells that clamps over the edge of the bottom of the boot lid. Can someone comment on this rack from personal experience ? If anyone knows of another one that they like, please " chime in ". An attached picture of yours would also be nice .

HI ED, I have both types on different cars.The type that physicaslly bolts to the boot lid has limited load carrying capabilities and is somewhat permanent.The so called original type will carry a good load and can be removed without leaving holes in the boot lid. However,I am not partial to either type its the individuals call. Fwiw---Keoke

edk, moss has the "original" type about $250.00 i found mine on ebay for $110.00- reputed to be n.o.s "original" did come in the correct period box i must admit. keoke is right about the ones you bolt through the boot lid being only as strong as the lid itself, dont expect to carry a spare tire,tools, and that hope chest aunt ritta wants you to move for her with that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Thank you both for the info. The one that Cape Sports sells sits on the boot lid but is fastened down by way of clamps that grab the bottom edge of the boot lid. I guess that even though they don't need holes through the boot lid, they still would not be able to hold very much weight. But I am not thinking about using it to cary very much weight.
If anyone is using one of the Cape Sports racks that clamps to the bottom edge of the lid, please let me know how you like it. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Those close up pictures of the detail of the luggage rack are exactly what I needed to see in order to make up my mind.

Well the load distribution looks to be about the same as the bolt on rack. Additionally, the paint is going to fade either side of those cadilac straps. Just my take---Keoke

No paint fading on my car. I've had the rack 4 years. Took it off a month ago and all was well.

I opted for the Amco rack to save the 300 dollars difference in price from the Cape rack.

Yup. I shortened them about 5 inches. The original long length made it way to high and would be in the rearview mirror.
