Holy Moly, Now I Need Better Brakes!

I finally installed the throttle cable on my triple setup and "improved" engine and can finally capture that last 10% of power that I was losing with the modified stock mechanical linkage. I just wasn't able to get full throttle with the slop in the hard throttle linkage and the cable gives me essentially 100% capacity. That's scary....now I do need better brakes. I modified the cable setup a bit by moving the carb bracket to between the 1st and 2nd carbs. Had to move the lever arm on the throttle shaft from the middle to the first carb. Same effect but now no binding in the cable. Notice I pulled the shielded cable away from the header with a stainless steel cable tie. Also had to modify the firewall bracket to clear a heater hose. Otherwise, a clean install. I am really having a hard time keeping my foot out of the carbs.....just when premium is $3.50 a gallon!

That's a thing of beauty, TR6Bill!
Are you going to go for some four-pot calipers?

Hi Rusticus,
There is a strong possibility that I will head there next.
I seem to have an oil leak out of my rear engine seal, clutch smokes badly after a hard, hot run. I ordered the Gunst TO bearing with TRF Magic Clutch (replacing an older Magic Clutch with Koyo bearing), need to change my ring gear and rear main bearing. All this summer. Would be a good time to look at the brakes. I have the Kevlar front pads, but they are starting to fade on a really hot day. Gotta be a better way. May rebush the front, again.

It never ends.

I will say though, today was the first time ever that I really felt like I have a "hot" car. Kicked a coffee-can rice grinder's butt on the four-lane. It's about time. (of course, I kept my speed within legal limits, I just got there a lot quicker....)

No, man, it never does end. That may not be a bad thing...

I always thought that the triple Stromberg or Triple SU setup looked cooler than the triple Webers. But I may be wierd. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/square.gif

Try the morgan conversion first if you don't have it. $60 (from VB) well spent.

Morgan rear wheel cylinders. They are a larger bore size and increase the rear bias to the brakes. Externally they are nearly identical to the TR6 wheel cylinders. They are a straight swap.

You know, after riding motorcycles for 30 years, I think of the rear brakes as things only useful for making long black lines on the road. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Bill,

Thats a great idea. If you don't mind, I think I'll steal your idea; I raised the back of my motor up to the stock height and sure enough, my cable is too short. I ordered a replacement cable kit from Summit, in the mean time, I'll move the bracket to the second carb and relocate the throttle arm to the first.

Is that all you had to do?

Thanks for the idea!
