Grrr. After getting up at 4:30 driving 320 miles flying 2000 miles and just about having the plane end up in the chevron station off the end of runway 8 at Burbank I'm back home. I went out to the garage and fired the B up and pulled her out and found a nice pie plate size fresh oil stain on the drip pan.

Well out comes the jack and jack stands and under I go which is not what I wanted to do. After some searching and tracing it looks like the leak is somewhere in the vicinity of the bottom timing gear cover. The rest of the engine is nice and clean as it should be with only 800 miles on the rebuild. There is a line of oil spray on the cross member right behind the pulley on the crankshaft.

I'm thinking its either the timing chain cover gasket or oil seal though it is dry directly under the seal or possible the front plate gasket. The timing chain gasket shouldn't be to bad to change but if it is the front plate gasket am I looking at pulling the engine for replacement?

On a more positive note I found my brittek ultimate ignition waiting for me. I went ahead and installed it this evening and the engine seems to be running smoother at idle with better throttle response and the timing mark is now rock solid. Hopefully the predicted rain will fizzle and I wont have to reinstall the top so I can get down to my friend and mechanical tutor's garage to track down and hopefully fix the leak and if time permitting tackle the suspension work I would like to finish up.

You may have been landing as I was taking off! I fly back in on Monday. Put some pillows at the end of the runway for me. That sucker is short!

I dunno about Pasadena, but Montrose/La Crescenta has been getting rain ever since I finished installing my Bosche alt'nater around 4PM. It even snowed a bit at the top of the mountain on the west side of La Crescenta Valley. It didn't stick very long, but it did snow up there today. On the Burbank (where I work) side of the mountain that I live behind, I don't think it rained at all... if it did it had to have been between smoke breaks.

Very consderate rain out there.

Stewart: Not certain with a RB car, but it can all be done in-situ with a CB car, but it IS necessary to un-do the motor mounts and raise it up a bit for the pulley to clear the X-member.
