As some of you may know, I recent revived a long-dormant '62 TR4. While the transmission has all of the right gears in the right places, the reverse lockout does not work right. I assumed it was a broken spring since there was no resistance to pulling up on the shifter, but worked right otherwise. I took it apart tonight and what a mess I found. 
Obviously, a previous owner got "creative" in trying to repair it. First pic is just after removing the spring. Second is after I fished the small metal piece out, last is all of the garbage I found under the shift boot. From left to right, what looks like an escutcheon for a house door knob, a bezel screw for a universal ignition switch, the spring (is it even the original?) and finally, the hunk of metal I fished out. I looked at the Moss catalog, but unfortunately, most parts are tiny drawings of parts that are unavailable anyway. WTF is this mess supposed to look like? Help!
