Heater blower blowing fuses

I'm working on my 74TR-6 and every time that I turn on the heater blower switch it blows the fuse. I can't find a replacement switch at any of the usual Triumph vendors, but the motor is available. I'm hoping that it's not the motor because I sure hate to have to rip the dash out to get at it. Anyone have any ideas for a quick check on this problem?

Thanks,

Paul

You can disconnect the wires from the back of the switch and run the motor directly. My guess is that it isn't the switch, but a motor that is drawing too much amperage. I know that's not what you wanted to hear!!

I was kind of afraid of that. I'll pull the switch and jumper the wires to see if it runs.

Thanks again,

Paul

Or unplug the motor itsself and then turn on the switch. If it still blows a fuse then you have a short somewhere in the wiring (between the switch and the blower motor). But it sounds like a shorted motor. good luck

My heater used to blow my fuse constantly as well. In my case, it was just that the switch was sitting akward in its hole (I don't know of a more technical way to say that!)and was grounding out on the support. I think I remedied it by insulating any potential metal on metal contact with some electrical tape. I will be known as the DPO someday, I'm sure, but that solved my probem.

rather then using the fuse (and risking the car wires) to look for shorts, just use an ohm meter (your volt meter set to resistance) and with the battery disconnected check shorts on the system that way. Just a thought.

All great tips, thanks. I'll use them all, especially with the ohm-meter to look for a short. I will post my findings after I get to work on the car again this weekend.
