Fuel overflow pipe clips

I'm assembling the oil pan to block on my 66 BJ8. There are two small clips that are attached to the block by oil pan bolts, longer than the others, that protrude through the lip of the block long enough to secure the clips with washers and nuts on the protruding part of the bolt. My problem is that I don't know exactly which two oil pan bolts should be the longer ones used for the clips. Starting from the front, any idea on which ones are correct?
Thanks in advance.

Well Cutlass, for once Moss is correct on the location of the drain pipe brackets on the sump. However, to interface with those locations, the drain pipes must take on a lazy "Z" configuration which minimizes the posibility for introducing a vacuum leak into the system. On the otherhand, I see no reasn for nuts and washers as the block is threaded. Thats OK if you have the flat type pipe clips.---Fwiw---Keoke

Thanks, Anthony and Keoke. I had seen the diagram in the Moss catalog, with part #57, showing the approximate location of one long bolt as you indicated. But there are two pipe clips, and two long bolts, with only one shown on the diagram. The Moss diagram, of course, is right out of the Mechanical Service Parts List, which likewise calls for two long bolts, but shows the location of only one. Because of that, I did not really trust the diagram on the one shown. The problem is that I did not disassemble the sump from the block and note the location of the clips. Thanks again, though, for your willingness to help. The Devil is in the details. (And in the body shop.)

I just checked on my spare "parts" motor. As you can see below, the clips are mounted on the 2nd and 7th bolt as seen from the side (or technically the 3rd and 8th if you count from the front row of bolts). Anyway .. a picture always helps...

Interesting John. Guess I have another correction to do. What I did was to use all slightly longer new bolts that came with a alloy sump from AH Spares (before the exchange rate hike) and put these as "washers" from the underside and added grommets to avoid rattle. Agree with Keoke about the lazy bend.

Hi Tracy, I don't think you could mount the clips on the underside with the stock pressed steel oil pan because the lip would get in the way. There are grommets that go in the holes to isolate the manifold drain pipes .. just missing on my photos.

Cheers,
John

Hi John, It is easy enough to locate the stock pipe retainers under the pan lip by obtaining a spacer from most any hardware store that will allow it to just clear the lip when installed.---Keoke
