TR2/3/3A Figure 8 gaskets at bottom of liners

What, if anything, do you recommend you put on the metal figure 8 gasket that goes under the liners?
My old Service instruction manual states the use of “Wellseal” jointing compound applied to both sleeves and block.
Does anybody know what kind of sealer this is? RTV Silicone, “Permatex” or something else?

I use Permatex #3 on Fig 8 gaskets. Never had a leak in some 40 years.

Wellseal is not RTV, but something like a cross between Permatex #3 and Hylomar. It is actually still available, although it's considered a hazardous substance here in the USA and so rather expensive to have shipped. I believe you can still get Wellseal via mail order, Apparently if was designed and used by RR. I think using a sililar
non hardening oil resistant sealer will work. Try Wellseal.com. for more info. This is one of those subjects that I am
sure will get a lot of responses. Most likely there will be several schools of thought on what's best to use.

I used Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket which may be the same goo Randall mentions. It has a long work time and sets up to something stiff but not brittle. No leaks on mine.
