Has anyone here installed the aftermarket fender vents in there Healey's? Im' wondering how big a job it is to cut and place them in the fender sheet metal, and if the average shade tree mechanic (me) could do it!

I have a set on mine that you can see at
Healey Photos. These are made by Kilmartin Sheetmetal of Australia, available from
British Car Specialists in Stockton, CA. They have a flange around the perimeter.
Here's how they are attached:
FIRST and VERY important - you have to locate them properly so they clear the inner fenders and the footwells. When you are sure they will clear these, then cut the fender.
The fender hole on mine is such that their flange is on the inside (some people put the flange on the outside). I spot welded the flange to the rear of the fender and them used a small amount of filler to round off the edge. They could also be brazed or spot welded and brazed.
The vents are deep enough that I had to cut slots in them for the small diagonal braces from the footwells to the inner fender. This just takes some time, isn't difficult, but is annoying.
