Well I have finally started on some fender skirts for the TR3. There has been some trial and error, but they are starting to take shape. I got a little insperation when a set sold for on e-bay for $800. I had bought a set in 1996 for about $250 from TRF, Prices only go up!!

Very Nice Dan!

Are the welds for the attachments or to shrink the metal?

That was for shrinking the metal. I am going to cut out four sets and tak them to our shop on Saturday and tig weld the flange. On the ones in the picts I used a hand turning machine and hammer and dollies. I am not real happy with the finished product yet. So Saturday I will hopefully get a little better finish product.

That looks great, your metal fabrication looks spot on. I'd love to get a set of spats for my car. Any thought what you might charge for a pair?

Any chance of making yet another set?

Christmas is coming and I know someone who would like to open a box with a set of those! <My brother has a TR3>

Great job on manufacturing these skirts. Originals are rare, indeed, and pricey. Only one question. Your skirt seems to bulge out very nicely, but originals I've seen have been flat. Were there two versions for the originals?

Also, I've never seen skirts for the front. Perhaps that explains the bulge (?)

One could assume that there were two versions:

Here's a picture of TS1LO (l) and TS2 (r), the first two "production" TR2s. Note the difference in skirts (spats)!

You've never seen skirts on the front because nobody ever puts them there -- they interfere with front wheel movement, aka "steering."

Which always made me wonder about cars such as the 1951 Nash:

No skirt <span style="font-style: italic">per se</span>, but not much of a wheel well opening, either!

The fender line on that Nash is WAAAY farther outboard from the tire than it is on a TR -- or practically anything else. That boat must be near eight feet wide! It's a design that hardly any other make has seen fit to emulate. Maybe, no other make -- I can't think of one.

If I recall correctly, the Tucker was supposed to have front skirts / spats that were designed to turn with the wheels.....?

Just a quick update. The first set is done. It takes a little more time than I estimated but it is not work when you enjoy what you do. Bruce your next. I am going to make a set for Triumphfest to get some feed back. I kinda like the looks on my TR, More of a racer look.

I'm generally not a fan of fender skirts, but those look GREAT! Beautiful craftsmanship, those should do well at Triumphest ...
