Electrical Question

It must be something simple, but darn if I can figure it out.....recently installed a new oil/temp gauge. Started the car, but was getting some leakage from the connector so I switched it off and tightened the connector. Tried to restart it....no go...and it hasn't started since. Bought a tester to determine if plugs were getting spark......no spark. Started at the switch, ignition had power when on....went to where the white wire connects to the wire going into the Pertronix positive ground distributor....there was power...checked for power where black/white wire comes out of the Pertronix and connects to coil...with switch on and bumping the starter there is power of varying voltage.....checked for power at positive and neg poles of coil with the switch on...no power...bumped the starter....still no power...the coil is a new one I switched out when problem began....where do I go from here???

Sounds like there is a lifted ground somewhere? Maybe the grounding strap got undone?

The link below may help with module testing.
https://www.ttalk.info/Tech/PerPosGndTest.htm

On cars with standard, non-ballast ignitions, the wire from the ignition switch goes to the "hot" side of the coil as does the feed wire to the Ignitor module. The module gets its earth connection through the module mounting foot. The remaining Pertronix wire goes to the remaining coil terminal and provides a path to ground for the coil. I assume your wire from the ignition switch is connected to the coil and not just to the module. If not... start there.

For those interested, the problem turned put to be a bad Pertronix Ignitor......I replaced it to the tune of $83 and all is well. Thanks for the suggestions!

Glad you found the problem before the car show this weekend. Or maybe not as good as your car looks. Stiff competition for the other Bugeye owners!

Yes Doug, we are coming seperately. I am staying with EdK Friday night and then driving over to the show in the morning. I think Bill is trailering his BE up on Saturday morning.

I look forward to seeing you there ! It should be a good day. Local weather is calling for a high in the low 70s and not much chance of rain.
