Colortune?

I'm thinking about getting a Colortune for my 69 TR6 with ZS carbs. Does anyone own one? Do they work? It seems like a real easy way to dial in the carbs. I must admit carbs intimidate me, so anything that eases my mind will help.

Cheers,

Hello Rob,

yes they do work and are easy to use. For multiple carburettor set up I suggest that it is better to have the same number of Colourtunes as carburettors.
If you have any oil burning in the cylinder from worn valve stems etc this will show up as rich also, which is worth bearing in mind.

Yup-yup. I've two of 'em, they're great for setting up dual SU's etc... bit of a fire-drill on a V-12 Jag tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Work best in a darkened garage....you can get by with just one but its tricky

Why two? If I read the instructions right, using my TR6 as an example, you put it in #1 cylinder, adjust the front carb. Then install it in #6, and adjust the rear carb.
Is it that 2 Colortunes save time, or is there a benefit to buying 2, other than enriching the pockets of the Colortune dealer? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Works exactly like that - except sometimes its hard to get them together switching back & forth

Hello Rob,

although you are adjusting one carburettor, because of the balancing tube in the manifold you are affecting all cylinders. Ideally you would want to see what all six are doing simultaneously.
If you use one then you are swapping back and forth as you do the adjustments.
