Capillary tube of oil/temp.-gauge as single part ?

Hello @ all,
on my combination gauge water /oil it is a little "break" in the turned capillary tube. Does anyone know, is it possible to remove the tube as a single part. All supplier offer only the gauge assembled with the tube. But I would like to use my silver orginal gauge,not a new moss part.
I understand that the gauge has to be adjusted after tube changing.

z.Zt. habe ich eine Healey BJ8 zerlegt. Der hat das gleiche Smiths Kombi-Instument
Wie hast du den Fühler aus dem Zylinderkopf rausgebracht?

thank you very much for information. This was an really just in time support :thumbsup: (and for me easy to read...)
My Triumph TR6 did not have this kind of "pre-war" technology like my BT7. So this technology is completly new for me. It sounds very good for me to go to a specialist. But I think the price from 2002 will be "upgrated"

But the tube still needs to be filled with alcohol; how're you going to do that?

This is a repair for a specialist.

I recommend going to the MG forum(gasp! heresy).

There have been several very informative threads about repairing, replacing, refilling and adjusting these capillary gauges. One fairly recently that caught up the basics for everyone. One a year or so ago that went into fine detail and explanations. It might even be in the wiki forum...

ATTENTION the water temp. capillary is filled with very flammable solution before cut it you must put the sensor on one cup of ice to avoid the instantaneous evaporation of solution inside-
this is not a thermometer but temperature are find on the basis of pressure generate by the evaporation
-for the reparation of the capillary I can give you the instructions to do it
The oil pressure gauge are no critical --capillary can be cut without particular caution

My local gauge rebuilder replaced the entire capilary tube when he rebuilt the gauge a few years back. Did not seem to be any particular problem in doing this.
