TR6 Bob Tullius Group 44 TR6

On the Speed Channel last night they showed Bob Tullius' Group 44 TR6 motoring around. The new owner has it restored nicely. Even showed the 240Z that it competed against, also nicely restored. I have to say that a TR6 in full race regalia sure cuts a nice profile! What a sweet sound. They went on to mention how much of a challenge it was to drive one of these cars. We know that!

Sports Car Revolution was the show I think. Shame they didn't have it on a track- they were just toodling along public roads (most probably illegally!...)

I recall seeing that Triumph run at Lime Rock in its heyday. Saw Newman and Morton race Z cars there too.

I saw Newman in the old style TR-6 Group 44 livery.....at an SCCA regional race I was crewing at.
He was really good in the 300 ZX later on.

I did not catch the program, but did read Burt Levy's write up on the car in British Car Magazine Dec. '92. At the time, Burt said that the car was the best production built race car that he had ever driven, period. Prior to the test drive, Burt called Paul Newman and John McComb, both of whom drove the car to national championships, asking them to comment on the car. Newman didn't have much to say, but McComb confirmed what Levy eventually wrote, the car was a dream to drive; stating that it was a real race car. Levy did say the the long stroke was a slug mainly because it wasn't a true race motor. But the car really shined in the corners.
I would like to see the show to see who the authorities are that drove and critiqued the car. At this time, I would have to side with Levy who has driven numerous production and purpose built race cars.
