Anyone ever mounted or seen Borrani wire rims?

Curious what the thoughts are? Please post pics if you have some. Most interested in TR2~3s, but any TR would be good to see.

Have seen Borrani's many times on Ferrari's, but they were all centre laced, so would most likely have the wrong offset for a TR. Pretty sure the rim/tire size would be too wide for sidescreen TR's and rub on the rear wheel arch. Could be the wrong spline too. Can't recall if they were 15" or 16" diameter.

Main difference was that the rim was alloy instead of pressed steel, so they polished up nicely.

They were fitted to Ferrari's up to about 1969, as the Daytona had mags.

Being Italian, they were probably used on Maserati's and Lambo's as well. Alfa's and Lancia's may also have used them and if so, in sizes more suited to a TR. Perhaps have a look through ebay listings for those marques which will give sizes, but offsets need to be checked.

It looks like Borrani is still in business making wire wheels. Click on the pdf in the lower right, and you will see that that make wires for most Triumphs, including TR2/3's. I would imagine that they are made to original specs and look just like Daytons or Dunlops. They might have that neat three eared knock-offs though.

Dad bought an Apollo GT (American knock off of a 250 Dino) years ago, it had Borrani's on it new but someone pulled them off. I'd like to find a set to put back on it.

Check the link Art posted above, Borrani could make you a new set if you like. Post some pictures if you can of the Apollo. Does it run?

That's the site that got me thinking. I was looking at before starting this thread. I wish they had pics though. I really like the Borrani's look on the old Maserati's and Ferrari's, but I wondered how that would look on the TRs (and if it would fit). Sounds like their wire rims are (or should be) lighter than comperable Dunlops or Daytons. I wonder by how much though.

Bet they don't sell many Spitfire wheels, price exceeds the value of most every Spitfire in existence. :shocked:
