TR6 Has anyone ever made a new TR6?

Just dreamin.

TRF once had a complete TR6 Heritage body listed in the catalog, I think it was for sale for $10K. Now, with Ratco selling frames...hmmmmm. Has anyone ever attempted to make a new TR6 from scratch?

What one does when he has insomnia.

Although there are a slew of new parts available to create a new TR6, there are some major pieces that just aren't available new. Engine blocks, transmission cases and some of the internals come to mind. I'm sure that there are a slew of other smaller parts that aren't available new either.

Besides that, the cost would be in the stratosphere.

By the time I am done, it will seem as if I started from scratch.

Does TRF have any NOS blocks left? Several years ago, they had a whole wall of them stacked several high. Charles put them in several sale flyers.

I doubt it. That said, I actually think one would be better off with a seasoned block that was in excellent condition. Something about the aged block being better for machining, or something.

That said, there are still 2 brand new never titled TR6s in storage in Baton Rouge at Paretti Imports. Not for sale. I used to ogle them when they were on display a few years back. Now they are not even for display. Along with the last year of the MGB.

Yes. A friend of mine here in C'ville literally had his built from scratch. It was a rusted out hulk, Joe Hash Triumph, LTD., built it from the ground-up.

Cost upwards of $30K.

The guy bought it new, sold it years ago, then found it rusting in some guy's back yard. Emotional rebuild, I guess.

It's very nice, BTW.

Seems like it could be done, but I would think you would still need a donar TR6 for all the big bits like front & rear suspension, drive train, etc... Also need a donar to have the builders plate to register the car when done, without a builders plate I would think that the car would have to be registerd as a home built or a kit car.

:iagree:

A donor car here is essential to register it as a proper classic or older car, otherwise it may be subjected to all the regualtions that modern cars suffer, and then some of the correct period components are likely to fall foul of the law.

I'm real close, at $47K and counting, to building
a non-modified '69 TR6 from scratch (catalogs).
Praise the Lord I've not had to do any engine work
or repaint.

Hi Dale,

You say you`ve never had to do any Engine Work!

Have you ever considered that part to be perhaps the problem of "ALL" the problems you are having?

When your into it for $47K (Your not counting all those receipts are you)? There should be no stopping or turning back now! Its too late to recoupe any of that so; Keep on fixing. Sooner or later It`ll run like a TR6 should.

Best Wishes Again,

Russ

Tinster, $47K? Seriously?

Yea don't make him go through it. It will depress him even more and he'll fish for a week and the forum will be dead with out him.

He's most likely including the sometimes extravagant and unnecessary shipping costs to PR, as well as his copious amount of spares, the ripoff labor he's been charged a few times, plus his tools etc...

And the engine internals have been one thing that hasn't seemed to be a problem.

<span style="color: #660000">Yup Shawn, if the cash was spent on anything directly related
to the TR6 it got added to the running total. Yes, I had not a single auto tool
or tresting device; now I have many. $600 to install the throwout bearing
after I had taken everything apart. And the SOB never did the job.
$150 labor only to install each U-jounts. I'm betting well over $1,000.
in defective parts. Probably several $thousand on profiteering shipping charges.
It all adds up over time. My wood dash alone was $600.

Bear in mind, I have replaced almost the entire vehicle with catalog parts.
The long block and tranny are original. Not much else.

Of course I have so much money in this car I cannot stop trying to
get it operation. But I've promised my wife and myself. As soon as the
engine fails- the car go directly to the steel recycle center.

Nope true! $50k is the line in the sand.
Particulary for a $10,000 car that was sold to us as

<span style="color: #000099">"almost 100% restored.
All it needs is new ignition key"</span>

As I recall, Rimmer Bros in England have a TR6 in their showroom which was built from all new parts, a few years ago now. I don't think it was all NOS parts - I think it was done when BMH were making new bodyshells, and they had a new chassis, engine, gearbox, etc. It wasn't for sale, and wouldn't have gone in my carry on bag anyway!
