TR2/3/3A An odd 56TR3 Commision Number?

A Triumph club member here is restoring a TR3 with a "6" in front of the TS on the Commision plate.
Anyone seen this and know the significance of the 6?

Could be wrong but I thought cars that came into Canada from the factory had the date code at the beginning -6 stood for 56?

UK to Canada import as Don reports.. I am highjacking the thread for a second. I've had a couple of TR4a's that had a 1 in front of the CTC (1CTCxxxxxx) commission number, was that a dealer thing or anyone know anything about that.

Marv, I suspect that more likely indicates a car assembled in Belgium, usually for European Continent delivery but occasionally for US (Belgian-assembled Spitfires were not uncommon here). Anything unusual about either of those 4As, such as German-spec. lighting, etc.?

I have the same thing with my 1962 TR4 Commission number, it has a 2 in front of the original number.

Shortly after buying the car I found out about a Canadian requirement for the first digit of the vehicle number to start with the last digit of the year the car was originally sold.

It turns out that when I got my British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate my car was made in the UK and had in fact been originally imported to Canada.

I don't believe the 2 was not originally on the plate since it does not line up with the other numbers.

Those TR4A's are long gone. I don't remember anything odd about them but was always curious about the number.

Some Canadian provinces (possibly Ontario) may have required a number to be stamped in front of the commission number, but it was definitely not a Canada wide thing. My car was sold new in Edmonton, Alberta and does not have any extra numbers stamped on the commission plate. I have never seen a Canadian car with an extra number.

I've seen lots of them. But I think you're right; it was a provincial thing, and not all provinces appear to have done this.
