Tony, only the '70 to '74's are split. Everything from '61 to '69 has the solid bumper.

Jeff - that's what I meant when I went back & said the earlies aren't

Kenny - gotta do a serious inspection of the MGC - probably will keep it...body is unusually clean & rustfree (could be because from 1983 until now its sat in a basement), interior is complete & without tears/damage (gotta saddle soap to see if it softens up)...it has its negatives also but so do all old cars...rarity will probably be enough for it to go in the Garage-Mahal.

Tony, I knew you knew what you were talking about, just wanted to clarify it for others.
Sorry if it sounded otherwise.

And us others appreciate, we learning from you guys every day. Past Bugeyes I was kind of busy with family and military. For some reason did not stay up to date on LBCs. Now I got to fix that.

No problemo, Jeff - I should've been more specific

Kenny - I'm looking for P1800's everyday...be aware, I'll find one within a year!

Went out this morning & cleaned all the old dried p tape off the windshield, quarter glass & drivers door & fender...put a window handle on the regulator & rolled the driver door up!

Jerri walked outside looking for her Windex (wonder how she knew I had it) & commented on the MGC - she actually said it looked like a real good car & she though we should keep it! hehehehehe - donr deal....lots of boxes in it...I'll start putting headlights, trim, etc back on it since I won't be painting it for some time.

Affordable 1800's are pretty easy to find. The very nicest examples top out at only about $15K-$20K. That's not "cheap", but I'm talking about really perfect examples. You can find nice rust-free drivers for much less.

And if you're looking for the best performance, look for a '71. They had the fuel injection and higher compression than the '72, which got saddled with emissions requirements and lower compression. I believe a '71 1800E is rated at 130 bhp, while the later engines only put out 112 bhp.

I've got a spare '71 engine sitting in my garage but I can't bring myself to replace the original-to-the-car engine in my ES just for a few more hp. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif Only reason I even have it is because it came attached to the manual tranny I needed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

No pic yet - just made the place for it...still on trailer until I find room for it in garage....hmmm, think I need to connect my Garage-Mahal & little garage with a 3rd room for all my Midgets....

Jerri walked by as I was going through the boxes in its hatch area and asked, "You said there were only 484 of those cars sent over here. Wonder how many are left?" as she wandered off to putter with her roses...

Never heard of it! Remember, I also have a 1968 MGC roadster

I spent the day putting stff back on her that the PO had taken off 20-something years ago..all trim, bumpers, headlighs, grille, park lights, etc...only thing I didn't put back yet is the driver door mirror (passenger mirror on though) as I've gotta find one of those little plastic plenums...she really looks different

& I've been all up under her real close - no rust! She's definitely a keeper though I don't know when I'll get around to restoration...
