3 point seat belts

I was going to attach the seat belt to the roll bar but thought other wise. Is the top of the wheel well o.k.?
Does any body have a better suggestion?

Hi Dan,

What kind of car do you have? I think you made a wise choice to not attach it to the roll bar. I had considered doing the same thing, and members let me know right away about the inherent dangers of doing such a thing. I have a 69 TR6. I decided to move to three point belts also. On the inside of my car when I pulled padding away from the wheel well, and then looked underneath my wheel well I found that there was an option for the three point belt already there - it must have been a factory option. You might want to check.

There were no seat belts at all.

I have heard the shoulder belt mounting point should be higher than your shoulder, to avoid compression forces on your spine, in the event it's actually holding you back in a collision. The top of the wheel arch is the closest you get to that in a TR3 -- unless you mount on the roll bar. I don't know what the negatives of doing that are, but having posted that, maybe we'll be told again...

A nice steel plate inside the wheel house will make the belt as safe as you will ever get in a tr3.Not really safe, but way better than a motorcycle,which by the way is a good way to think about a LBC in traffic(darn near invisible).
Also for safety sake, have you converted your turn signals in the rear to dual function brake lamps?????This is a concourse approved improvement,just buy the fixture used in the front parklamps.

I have the third brake light that I will mount on the roll bar for extra protection. I got the one from Moss a little pricey ($50)but looks nice.
If it helps some one behind me see me it is well worth it.
I will also do the conversion to the turn lamps.

Hi:

I have a TR3A with a rollbar and put a 3 point inertia harness in my car. The previous response was correct about the height of the shoulder harness. You don't want it to rest on your shoulder. I made a simple bracket that raises the harness about 3 inches and mounted it to the same bolts that hold the roll bar, which are reinforced with heavy washers under the fender.

I don't have any pictures but could take some in the next couple of days.

I must have missed some earlier posting. I have used my roll bar for attachment and can't think of a better arrangement. Why not?
