1967 MKIII Time Capsule

Recently I aquired this late 1967 MKIII produced in August of 67. Its the first completely rust
free car I've come across in my many years of
doing Healeys. Everything is orignal from the paint to the interior. It was stored in an
airplane hangar at Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada since 1978. I just rebuilt the engine, brakes, axles, clutch.
Eventually I'll restore this (good candidate for a concours car) or sell it as is if a buyer comes around.
I even found a newspaper inside from September 1968

That is an incredible find. Please, tell us the whole story, how you found it, etc. Give us an idea of what you would be willing to part with it for in the current state and what you think it would go for after a full resto.... not that I could afford it.

I have a friend in Nevada that keeps an eye out
for Healeys and he came across an ad in a local
paper and forwarded me the contact information.
I spoke with the man, a US Airforce captain from
Nellis Airforce base, Nevada, who bought the car
in 1970 from the 1st owner, drove it until 1978 and stored it that year in an airplane hangar at the base until he retired in the late 1990's and moved to Texas.
The car is complete and is a perfect candidate
for concours restoration so a top notch restoration on this car could fetch between 60-70k. In the condition it is now with all the mechanicals done, its worth in the mid to upper 20s I'd say.

Hi Harold,

The BJ8 looks great .. I really like checking out original unmolested cars and the great patina they have. That said, are you sure it is original paint? My car was originally old english white and it looked a lot like yours on the bottom (below the passenger side view). Is that white paint or is that some other type of coating?
It also looks like the engine compartment and front rails are a different green with overspray on the A arms, etc so it appears to me that there has been some respray going on. Not that it is a big deal especially if you or someone is going to do a ground up restoration.

Cheers,
John

Nice find. I would have to "evaluate" that one for a few years before deciding to part with it.

Good Night! Believe me when I tell you that the instant the money for the sale touched your hand and you signed over the title you know, deep in your most secret heart that you had screwed up - You'll probably never find another example of big Healey as nice as that one.

Think of the perpetual bragging rights, not to mention the jaw-drop factor involved in owning an incredible motor like that.

You're one lucky guy ( and darn fortunate to have the disposable income when this became available)
