TR2/3/3A 1957 TR3 $4700 Scam

There is a 1957 TR3 on Boston area CL for $4700. It is also on Buffalo NY. I understand it is in other listings also.
A second posting came up today advising it was a scam
And to think I considered going to look at it! A very nice looking example though. I wonder who really owns it.

There was CL scam going on TR3 / 4 a couple years ago. Nice looking car, temptingly cheap. Out of town owner who needed a deposit to hold the car due to all the interest or pay up front and he'd pick you up from the airport kind of thing...

Looks like these are popping up again.

A friend just this week 'chased' an XK140 (or 150) that was a smokin' deal. Listed on Craigslist as close by (Gilbert, AZ) but when he contacted the seller for a look the car had been shipped to Quebec (mother died, etc). He played along -- 'My brother's factory is just across the river, he can bring the cash etc' -- now it seems the car (on it's way to Quebec) had been mistakenly unloaded in rural Indiana.

They would not give up -- 'just send the money and we'll ship the car at our expense, if you don't like it we'll pay the shipping to send it back'. The paid shipping and the low price are the obvious clues.

He later found that the same car had recently sold online providing the website images the scammers used.

What amazes me is that after soooo many examples of such antics and scumbags, some people still fall for these scams.

I just hope such scammers are caught and prosecuted. Probably not, but I sure hope so.

This one seems to occur every spring and fall. Sometimes with a different color car to keep the obvious hidden.

I had my ad stolen twice.Luckily it was an
unusual car (Ford Corsair GT),so I had people
tip me off about it.
I wish that I'd "played dumb" & asked where
to send a deposit.That way,I might have been able
to track the thief down.
Maybe we can help stop these people if another
bogus ad shows up.
