Optional windscreen washer 1957

I seem to remember many of the TR3s I've owned over the years had a washer system with a foot well operated rubber bulb. I don't think I ever had the dash mounted pump. I'm trying to re live my youth (HA HA) so I want the same washer system in this car. Anyone seen this in a while? Also, I don't remember what the washer reservoir was like. Thanks.

Triumph offered an optional windscreen washer from the first sidescreen cars. However, supply and installation of these were the responsibility of the dealer.

The most common brands used were manufactured by Trafalgar and Tudor, both British companies. These used a cylindrical plastic reservoir.

Lucas also offered the more expensive "screen jet" with electric motor/pump and large glass reservoir. I have also seen TR's and MG's fitted with period US and UK manufactured Trico washers.

Generally speaking, for sports cars, the manual plunger pumps were mounted on the facia. For TR sidescreen cars the most common location (LHD) was just left of the glove box. Of course this doesn't mean that a foot operated plunger could not be fitted. However these were generally seen on earlier, larger sedans and saloons. Also these early screen washers used a rubberized cloth bag for a reservoir.

I think I recognize that top pic - if so I think it will wind up on a very nicely restored Silverstone Grey 3A...

Not sure I've ever seen a floor operated version, but this is the one I've seen once or twice, and wish I could find someday:

Mine was installed by the Triumph dealer in Montreal where I bought my 1958 TR3A brand new in May 1958. TRA docked me a point in 1992 because it was not located as the one next to the glove box in Teri-Ann's photo. TRA have since "loosened" up on this rule since most were dealer installed and they could have installed it anywhere. My TR3A came "originally" like this photo below where you see it next to the O/D switch. I find it very convenient in that position.

Here is the Trafalgar bottle arrangement that has been in my 1958 TR3A for 58 years.

I can not imagine any space on the floor on the driver's side where you could fit in a foot pump. That is unless you were able to hang it off of the side wall above the dimmer switch. I have large feet ( size 12) and have enough trouble just getting room to be able to use what is normally there. My TR3B had a Trafalger bottle with the dash mounted pump. It was mounted exactly like Don's.
