Winter sucks

Found out in my mid twenties that skiing of any type caused allergies with my knees and that isn't good for standard shifts or golf, so I sold all of that stuff and just sit back and watch everyone else have fun with it.

Paul, I once did some calculations to figure when the mid point of the winter season was. Not the mid-equinox or anything like that but the temp/snow start and the temp/snow end. I figure it is Feb 2nd. So we are nearly half way through winter.

Good positive attitude Tom and living in your area you need it. You guys get a lot more bad weather than us.

February 2 is “Groundhog Day”. Your mid-winter calculation is interesting…

Yes, "winter sucks," unless you are living in California, Arizona.....etc., but even here in the East, the snow gods sometimes have mercy on us and give us a break. And then the open road calls us out.

I had thought the same thing. Wonder if someone else was bored enough to figure it out one day in the distant past.

Paul, we have had some cold and snow this year but not the snow like I see you folks are getting in the East. Here it just seems like we get a little about every other day.

Truth be told I have enough winter projects this season that a couple more months of winter will hardly be noticed.

Tom,

I can deal with the snow, as much of a pain in the arse that it is. Tomorrow, once again, is going to be bad. We are scheduled for freezing rain and sleet during the early morning commute and then more snow tomorrow night. Snow you can easily drive on. Ice is the killer. That's the part that is dangerous for young and old that I really hate.

I know how ice can be. When we were farming the house was in a valley with steep hills on both sides. There were times when we got a lot of ice that the only way we could get out or safely back in was to put tire chains on the front wheels of our 4x truck.

If you thought it sucked last week Paul, don't look out the window! Salt city.

I've been up since 5AM, since today was one of my CT working days. I said no way to a 300 mile day a few hours ago and the ice has been hitting the windows for about an hour or so. On top of 3-4 inches of more snow.

ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH...................

We had 5 inches yesterday. Not a problem for me, I only have to clean up at home. But it was a different day for Shirley. She is the head custodian at a large high school and among many other things is responsible for the snow removal. At work by 3am and nearly 5pm when she got back home. Then because the snow fell for close to 12 hours she was back at work by 6pm and did not get back home until close to 11pm. And off to work again this morning by 5:30am. Finally talked her into looking into possibly retiring. She won't know the numbers for a few weeks and she is required to give a 3 month notice. But the way she is talking I doubt she wants to retire yet this year (2011).

So she can stay at home and run errands for you and your car projects? I think if I were Shirley, I'd keep working as well.

I look at it this way. In the summer, I have to mow the lawn, water the garden, weed the garden, work on painting the house, do all kinds of chores before I have the luxury of taking the TR out for a drive - also after doing some work in the car.

But in the winter, it's too cold, snowy, salt on the road to take out the TR (even IF I could get it through the 5 foot high snowbank in front of my shop entrance left by the plows) so the only outside chore to do is snow removal. So most of the time, I plan on what I'm going to do during the nice weather. That is, AFTER I get the chores done. My house is a perennial maintenance chore. Eventually, I'll get done painting it but by that time, it'll need to be done again.

I'm lucky if I time at all, Last year, the 4A project sat idle again and we only took out the 3A for a couple of spins around the block. My Audi TT sits too.

So winter is less frustrating and a time for reflection and meditation - something I REALLY need (besides vinyl is final siding, huh)!

OOUMMMMMMMMwhencanIdriveagainOOUMMMMMMM ...

Winter is the time that my wife makes me clean the basement, hang pictures, look at draperies and carpets and do all of the things that never get done when I'm in the cars or playing golf. Reason #2 for starting this thread.

And now I get to hear about all of the spare TR6 parts in the basement, so get ready for a spring sale coming soon. I really have a lot more stuff collected than I'll ever need, so I'll be posting a list soon.

You and me both...my wife loves here TR6 but she really took a liking to the TR8 this summer.

Where is BobbyD hiding???

Another 8-12" coming for CT, RI & MA on Friday....

Beautiful, just friggin beautiful...........
