Who drove their Triumph today?

You all know:
Every Saturday, take a bath and drive the TR.
Every Sunday, drive the TR
Monday to Friday, wait for Sat and Sun.

YES! Drove the TR250 today (Friday). 180 miles to Stowe VT in 3 hrs for the "Invasion".

Cruising at 70MPH on the highway - with O/D this is 2500RPM. Didn't even have to stop for petrol (gas).

Anyone else up here?

I think just about every day this summer (gloat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif gloat!) except for the couple of days I had it in the shop for lube, oil, and cooling system flush but that was so I could take it on a 600 mile trip to Lake Tahoe and back (more gloating!).

Monster thunderstorm brewing right now in Fort Collins. Lighting and the resulting thunder seem rught outside the house. It'll be finished and gone in about 20 minutes though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Every weekend since I got it in August. Nothing today. Still cloudy.

Every evening this week.
Ole Ruby is just lovin it!
And my wife wants a new interior, she just does'nt get the whole picture.
There's a quote some one on the Forum use's something to the effect that he's 4 years into a ten year project. I've always felt that was very appropriate.
All good things in time.
Enjoy the wind in your hair.

I can finally say I drove the 3 today. The sun was out, it hit eighty degrees, the wind was calm to slightly breezy. A perfect day for top down car driving. I didn't even have anywhere to go in particular but I knew this was the day that I might not get back in my life. So...I decided to go through the ritual. Loosened the fastners with the key and lifted the bonnet, checked the engine oil level, topped off the dashpots, checked the brake fluid level, tapped on the regulator housing, (Good luck for me and sometimes the contact sticks) placed the gear shift selector in neutral, pulled out the choke, turned the ignition switch to the on position, depressed the start switch under the bonnet and watched the engine crank not even one full rev before firing at a brisk and throaty 1200 rpm. depressed the main fuel lever linkage from under the bonnet twice and let the car resume at choke idle speed. lowered the bonnet and secured the fasteners with the key. threw the key in the door storage area and jumped over the door and into the cockpit. Ok, I opened the door and sat sideways in. I slowly pushed the choke in and waited for the car to resume at 600 rpm. I know it's suppose to be 500 my car likes 600 or more than likely the tacometer is off. I then listened for a moment to that same squeak coming from the bonnet lift spring that Don Elliot tells me is original but drives me crazy. I shifted into reverse, backed out of the garage, got of the car and checked the floor for any new larger leaks and seeing none jumped back in. I drove off down the road waving to every neigbor out doing their saturday chores saying, beautiful day isn't it?. I then hit the power band in second going upthe hill and flipped the OD, It sounded like heaven to me and so what if it causes me to go partially deaf three hours later when I got home.

A while back I posted a note on how I set the timing on my three and was told how archaic. I found that funny so I wanted you to see the archaic ritual I go through just to start it. I can also start it faster from inside the car but where's the fun in that! It also helps to know if anything is leaking under there. Gotta go running out of wind!

I did get to drive mine today and it was great because my clutch is finally quiet!!!

And it was beautiful out there today. Tomorrow I baby sit my nephews, so no TR, but later in the week, we will be out and about!

Worked around the house all day today....but tomorrow is British car day!!!...But the wife isn't around....so me and the kids are taking the Jag, not quite what I'd consider an LBC...But still close enough.

Went over to drive the TR6.
Started it up,backed it up.&....brake pedal went to the floor!
Put it back in the garage, got back into the Cortina MKIII,& went to breakfast.
I hope next week's better!

Right now, only in my dreams, sigh. Maybe next Spring.

I try and drive my '3A at least every other Saturday; that's when my local club has their breakfast meetings, about a 30 mile drive from my house. I had to skip yesterday's meet, because of a long list of honeydo's. But of course, on a glorious Saturday, the TR was pressed into dutiful serveice.

On a trip to beautiful Culver City, CA, (the heart of screenland), I drove by a hupcab and wheel store. This is a place I've driven by at least 100 times in the past 10 years, but because I was missing a trim ring, the requisite light bulb went off, and I pulled in. Really now, what are the chances this guy has a matching original stainless steel trim ring?

Turns out the guy has 50,000 hubcaps in stock, but only one trim ring, completely perfect, and matching to boot! Wow, was I happy, and the owner was a simply terrific guy, with an encyclopaedic memory of both his stock, and it's location. 3 minutes and $25 later, I'm thrilled, and the car is looking happily complete again, and running real well, as well. My happy TR story of the day.

Autocrossed it yesterday, what a blast. I'm hooked, now I need to find another one so I don't beat the crap out of this one. I got her home compleatly intact, no missing or broken pieces. Next Solo event is in October, I can't wait. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Ah yes, autocross; GREAT FUN! Haven't done it in years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But I used to be quite a regular in my area for many years. It was only in the much later years, and strictly by the good fortune of finding the car and being able to "restore" it on the cheap, that I ended up with a dedicated autocrosser (ex-GP Spitfire 4). Before that, my autocross car was also my daily car: first a Spitfire Mk3 and later a GT6+. I honestly don't think that anything other than tires took any appreciably greater stress or got appreciably greater wear due to autocrossing...and the GT6 in particular did a LOT of autocrosses over the years!

Oh, and totally on-topic: I drove the Herald yesterday (Sat.) and today (Sun.) and will do so again tomorrow evening (Mon.)! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Miles and miles of twisty windies at my doorstep. Running down one today I closed up to another sports car and he must have seen me and he opened it up. Not wanting to tarnish the TR's reputation I opened it up as well and stayed about 30 feet off his bumper. After a spirited run of about 6 or 7 miles we came to a stop sign and he went left I went right waving to each other. It was a 60's Lotus in cherry shape. I refuse to say the speeds achieved because it could tend to incriminate me.

I drove today. It was a beautiful ride with the Rocky Mountains as backdrop. I do love it so.
