What juice in a parts cleaner?

I use common diesel fuel from the gas station- cheapest current option and just about the same cleaning as kerosene.

My washer has Mineral spirits in it. My washer has a filter and makes the washer fluid last longer and keeps the trash out of the pump. Diesel works ok for an initial cleaning, but it smells bad and also leaves a film on the part. If I use diesel, the wife can smell it a mile away! I have diesel tractors and Heaven forbid if I get any diesel on my clothes and walk into the house! (Grin). :madder: :eeek:

Patrick, If you have "other" spirits in the barn, I sure wouldn't us them to clean parts!

At the shop we tend to use mineral spirits for every thing from the parts washer to cleaning out transmission oil coolers and power steering oil coolers on vehicles so equipped.

Why would you ad ATF in a cleaning solution? I use Mineral spirits to get rid of oils, not ad them. Tell us something we don't know, I'm curious. PJ

I have a safety-kleen parts washer and the chenical was something like mineral spirits, became so dirty I now havw harbor freight cleaner mix and works excellent. Just cleaned a neighbors motor which had motor honey in it, got it clean.

A little bit of ATF mixed in with mineral spirits seems to help break up gunky deposits in my experience. Kinda the same idea as Doc's weasel pee.

I used petro based chemcials in my parts washer for decades, but now use water based chemicals and have for a couple of years now, which are safer for may reason, no flammable threat, and they can't asorb into skin as easily as petro based, checmial, sure you wear gloves, but let'as be honest, how many times have you worked in your part washer without them. The water based chemcial won't let you soak aluminuimm parts in them for extneded time periods, they will stain them, butIi use a secong biodegradalbe aluminum cleaner to soak aluminum parts in, I got fram a local chemical company.
