I’m getting close to adjusting my valves and the magic 13 has me scratching my head. I have a thought I wanted to run by you all and see if I’m just out in left field.
On a BJ8, each cylinder fires 120° after the previous one. If I lined the engine up #1 TDC of the compression/ power stroke, both intake and exhaust valves (1 & 2) would be closed allowing for adjustment. My rear axle is a 3.909, so in 4th gear if I rotate the rear wheel 120°x 3.909=469°, I should be TDC of cylinder #5. Adjust those 2 valves (9 & 10) and continue along with the firing order. To get an accurate 469°, I would remove the knock-off, leave the wheel on and install a cam degree wheel with one of those expanding rubber plugs inside the hub. What am I missing? Will this work? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
