thread size for oil sending unit

And the saga continues...
I am still trying to resolve the broken area around my oil sending unit. I came up with solution; all I have to do is figure out the thread size for the oil sending unit. It seems to be close to a 1/8 27NPT, but no one around here can tell be what the actual thread is. Anybody know what the thread size is and where I can get a tap and die?

The British pipe thread in 1/8" size has 28 threads to the inch as opposed to the 27tpi we are used to. Believe it or not, but the oil sending unit on my Miata has 1/8"-28 threads. It's not a commonly available size, but a machine shop supply place should have them. You might also try McMaster or some other online source. Actually, doesn't one of the forum's supporting vendors have tools for British applications??

Edit: I went on British Tool and Fastener's site (supporting vendor) and found the 1/8"-28 tap. He also lists dies.

I went to the website suggested. I read the material but am still confused. Would I buy the 1/8 x 28 taper or should I buy the 1/8 x 28 bottom tap and why? Which die would I buy to match it?

Go to the Home page and at the bottom is the phone number. Give them a call, as there are parallel and tapered British pipe threads. I'm not exactly sure which type he has there. I'd say that you would need the tapered pipe threads, but that is not the same as a tap that is designated "tapered". That refers to the amount of lead in threads the tap has. Tapered has the most (about 8), followed by plug style (about 4) and then bottoming, which is only one or two. I hope I haven't totally confused you. from your posts, I don't see any need for a die. Is the block sound?, if not there is little point in trying to re-tap the thread.
