St Ignace , Michigan car show.

Sounds like a good plan.
Remember, on the SS Badger as a classic car, you get to board last and depart first. And they let you drive your own car. Steve

Yes, this is our most ambitious trip, but friends just raved about how much they loved the coast of MI, so we decided we're halfway there, lets go! The plan is to make it around to Manitowoc, WI and take the SS Badger (last operating steam ferry on the Lakes) back to Ludington, MI and then down 31 towards home, stopping at Ft. Campbell, KY to see our son before he deploys. Looks like West Bloomfield is over by Detroit and not near our route. But we can visit at FL for sure! See ya there!
Jack

You won't be disappointed. We did the trip you are suggesting trough Wisconsin on. The only thing we would have changed in our trip was to avoid the UP and drive around the top of L Superior. At least that is the route recommended to us after the trip.

Kurt.

The trip is going well, except for the generally poor road conditions in Michigan, but we've met some great LBC people - sswarin in French Lick and Jer in Canada. Jer recommended a B&B in St. Ignace, where he stays for the big car show (coming up this weekend). We were surprised when we got to the inn and saw this sign. He had called them and had them put out his sign for us! Thanks, Jer! Also, a picture of our cars in Saulte, Ont. very nice touch! (unless of course it is around back next to the dumpster ;p ) seriously - have fun!

Sound's like a great trip! I'm envious...as to road conditions I think that the whole US is probably close to Michigans shape. I've been cussing my local road for several years but after a trip across Iowa 2 weeks ago I realized as I was returning that its not that bad in comparison to the roads I had been over. The country is letting the 2 lane hi-ways that I like to drive fall apart!

Was great to meet you & Kathy - short but sweet visit - hee hee glad they got the sign out for you ! Travel safe, happy the blog is updated, wondered what happened to you guy's !!

Hey Jack,
I've been following your trip blog and it looks like you are back in Michigan. If you are coming to the east side of the state (like to visit The Ford Museum and/or Greenfield Village) please let us know and we'll meet you somewhere to share a meal or at least some libations. Great Blog by the way.

Thanks, Steve, but we are now on the way "down" and are in Crawfordsville, IN. Heading to Ft. Campbell, KY to see our son before heading for home. Looking forward to picking up the dog, cutting the grass and sleeping in my own bed!!

Was another great "Car Show Weekend", finally had decent weather, light rain saturday evening well after the show ended - seemed like a decent turnout considering the issues they had earlier this year with the possible cancellation etc. Next year is the 40th anniversary and also the Ed the organizer since the start will be retiring after the 40th so hopefully a group is ready to take over... or next year might be the last...
Went in the parade, glad I did it to say I did, but won't do it again, too much stop & go, Midge held up well & didn't overheat, but I enjoy watching the parade more than participating.

It looks like we will not be there this year. We are doing our first NAMGBR event (MG2014 in French Lick, IN) starting this Sunday through Thursday. And we have other commitments just before and after the St. Ignace weekend. So someone else will have to uphold British Car pride this year. And you can have my parking spot across from the ACE Hardware parking lot. Safety Fast.

I hope you are planning on attending this year ! 40th Anniversary !! I will be going in the Hot Rod, but my friend may be taking one of the Midget's down, the wife is taking her SUV as she has plans to hit the Hobby Lobby in Petosky on the Friday ha ha.

How are things Jer? the family? the hot rod? feel like you haven't been around much

I have been lurking a bit, because of the Hot Rod rejuvination I don't have any repairs going on with the LBC's this winter, the 67 will get a long overdue exhaust pipe in the spring & probably a gearbox overhaul next winter (it got proper seats & new rear leafs last summer), the 74 got a rebuilt gearbox, clutch & carbs recently so I have it sorted out decent. Family is good, daughter is just over 14 months old, walking & starting to say a couple words... even said "Daddy" the other day... that melted me
Sold my Triumph TR3 projects late last fall, promised myself if I got the Hot Rod I would sell the Triumph projects (didn't want to be a project car hoarder) Hot Rod Progress is here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/snoopy-model-a-hot-rod-survivor.942245/ - making good progress, it has been a whirl wind learning all the quirks !

Next summer (2016) wife & I are thinking about making a 5 year wedding anniversary trip back to Elkhart Lake, have to decide which LBC to take - where does the time go next summer will be 5 years since Elkhart Lake !!

And how are you & family keeping ?

Jer, Nancy and I make it out to Brian Redman's "Hawk" historic's every year. Ran into Dave Woerpol there year before last and I imagine there are others from this group as well. The Midget was transportation except for last year. Would be great to get together with you or any of the rest of the "Midget 50" group at the races.

Kurt.

Jer, I've been enjoying following along with your progress with Snewpie. Quite a story behind that car, and quite the car.

Jer, love the hot rod, and I still get a smile when I think about the MG sign at the Inn in St. Ignace and my conversation with the customs agent when we came to see you! And, my dementia must be setting in, because you mentioned going to Elkhart Lake for your 5 year anniversary. That reminded me that I think we saw some newlyweds when we were there for Midget 50. So, that was you?!! So, you should also think about going to MG2016 which will be in Louisville, KY. Hopefully, we can get a nice turnout of Midgets.

Jack

ha ha yep that was Paula & I Jack ! I wanted to put one small newly wed sticker on the back, but my wife seen the other decals in the package & on they went ! ha ha , we were in our 74 Midget at Midget 50th, when I seen you & your wife last summer I was in our other Midget, the 67 - I didn't realize you were at Midget 50th as well - to funny - Louisville would be a decent haul for me... but food for thought.

Hello again to everyone. Its been a few since I posted the st ignace car so question. The divorce is final and she got the midget, however after it was all over she gave me the title/car back. So now its 3 weeks before ignace and i'm trying to wake up the little midget. It ran good but overheated(thermostat I think). Gonna try to get it ready and drive it to ignace. However if I cant get it going and build confidence I'm gonna throw it in the trailer and haul it up there. Anyone else going?

I will be there, no Midget this year though - I'm trying to get into the club & be one of Steve's Hot Rod friends !
Originally I was hoping the wife would bring one of the Midget's down but she is bringing her Equinox to go shopping at Hobby Lobby in Petosky friday morning - My Hot Rod has way less storage than a Midget (believe it or not) so both Midget's will stay at home this year, glad that Jim & Steve are planning on attending !
My buddy is driving the 67 to a show for me this coming weekend, it's all polished up, just have to install the horn button & were good to go !
