Rotary Sprite

And the shocks really do work well. Call Peter C. give credit card #, Nice box arrives several days later with your requested parts, put old cores back in box, call UPS, Core charge is refunded to your CC. It's that simple. And did I mention shocks work better than new.

Ok I think I got the rear-end deal straighten out for now. Next problem I'm tackling is the brakes. I'm upgrading to a Wilwood dual master cylinder but was wondering if I can use later model disc and calipers on the front. Most after market set-up I see are expensive and I was hoping that you guys have some other Ideas that may be more economical! Thanks. Dave

You might consider the Toyota 4 piston caliper, it's iron, not alloy but is a near bolt on. MGB calipers are a direct bolt-on, but i think they are not much better than the stockers. Mine is from an '85 4-runner and I used it with MGB wheel cylinders in the rear as per the Vintage Motorsports Midget project.

I did that on my Z car and had allot of trouble finding good rebuilt units. They would leak within 1000 miles. Didn't realize they would fit on these cars. I might go that route as my brakes suck (IMO).

Thanks guys, that cheap enough for me, I'm going to order them now, and work on removing the old ones this weekend! Dave.

Oh I like that Idea, Thanks I will look into this for sure!!!!

That's simple enough even for me, I'm going with Peter for sure.
Thanks Dave..

Ditto about the article. I've tried a couple of 4 piston brake calipers on my Midget (Volvo and Mazda) but they were too long and would contact the lower A frame at full lock.

The Toyota caliper conversion was not part of the Vintage Motorsports article. I got that from browsing the midget car stories over at the British V8 site. There is a story that shows some good pictures of the installation.

My car uses the Spridget uprights with tubular A-arms so it's not exactly like yours, but the changes were minimal. The bolt spacing is off by about 3/16" and they needed to be spaced to one side with washers to fit. I am running 15" wire wheels laced to Spridget hubs and had to grind off some casting flash to prevent rubbing. In all it was an afternoons work to get them both installed.

So far they seem to work well, but the pedal feel is still "squishy" due to my using the stock m/c.

Thanks for the info I will check the BV8 site. Do you have any pics of your current set-up?

Here is a link to my build site. It's not very well organized, but there are some shots of the brakes.

Thanks West I breeze thru your bucket! Dave.

Hope it is OK that I linked to some pictures so everyone could see them. Nice build!

And the Westfield Kit weighs how much? Nice build looks like a very fun ride.

When we did the corner weighting and chassis set-up it weighed in at 1180 lbs with 8 gallons of fuel onboard. My 1380 made just under 100hp on the dyno..... I am thinking that 12 lbs per hp would be a good estimate. BTW this was with me in the drivers seat and I run about 190 with my clothes on. Driver weight on such a small car can be a significant part of the overall package.

I am also doing a Rotary Bugeye, just found this thread. Do you have any photos of what you are doing with your trans mount? I would also be interested in your header photos. I am assuming you are using the shortened Mazda 5 Spd? I have a 13B with the shortened 5 spd, mazda GSL rear end. The car has been a very slow project (I keep getting sidetracked with other projects, but I am getting close now)

My biggest challenge now is trying to adapt the big brake kit (Huffaker spacers, wilwood calipers, and Spitfire rotors)and figure out how much I have to grind off of my Frontline Suspension Arm.
Thanks,
Ed
