Road Trip

I'm going to drive my GT6 from north Texas to New Jersey at the end of this month. If possible, I'd like some feedback from people along the way (route below) so I can have some idea of where the British shops are in case of difficulty that I can't handle on the roadside. I do have AAA as well. I'll be taking secondary roads that roughly follow this path on the interstates:

Dallas --> I-30 --> Little Rock
Little Rock --> I-40 --> Knoxville
Knoxville --> I-81 --> Harrisburg

By that point, I can call friends if necessary.

My car is in excellent shape and I don't anticipate any problems but I'd feel better knowing I had some ideas with me just in case.

Thanks.

I can't help much, but, I kow that wedgeparts is somewhere in TN or KY. https://www.wedgeparts.com I hope this doesn't get deleted, I'm not advertising for the guy or anything, just offering the advice I can.

Also, you may want to keep a set of hoses, belts, plugs and HT leads with you on your trip. Bon voyage!

Hmmm, interesting reply. Have I violated the rules of etiquette with my question? I honestly expected a larger response than I have received. Webb hasn't even recommended the place he works!

Once you're on the east coast, up in West Virginia, Northa Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia, etc. you can have car towed (if it needs to be, and lets hope it doesn't!) to the shop where I work at 370 Hash Lane, in Grottoes Virginia, 24441. If you want more specific directions, let me know.

I was curious to see replies to this post, as I am supposed to pick up my TR6 this Saturday(Aug.14th) in Austin Texas. I'm gonna drive it home to Maryland,...on pretty much the same route you have laid out.

Please everyone keep you fingers crossed for Saff and I.

Sounds like I'm going first, so I'll be the guinea pig. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Saff,

There's a place near Little Rock off of I-40 (just west of Little Rock in Maumelle actually) named McLeod's British Cars. The owner is Ronnie McLeod and his phone number is 1-800-352-5816.

Saff, if you could provide the route you intend to travel, you may get more specific responses.

I've found that there are reputable LBC repair/restoration shops in most population centers in the mid-Atlantic states. Virtually every locality with roughly 100,000 or so population has an LBC specialist shop or two.

I have two within about 30 miles of here (Joe Hash Triumph, Ltd., is my guy), and probably 4 or 5 more within 100 miles.

Give us a list of the major cities you'll be near, for starts.

Mark, thanks for the reply about your preferred shop in northern VA. My route was listed in the original post on this thread in terms of roads. The major cities are:

Dallas->Little Rock
Memphis
Nashville
Knoxville
Bristol/Kingsport/Johnson City
Roanoke
Hagerstown
Harrisburg
NYC metro-mess

Thanks again.

There's a British car resto shop in Roanoke (at least one) but I don't remember the name. You might try a Google search for LBC clubs or Triumph clubs in the Roanoke Valley area, sorry I can't recall it.

Here's Joe Hash's Triumph, Ltd. website: https://www.joehashstriumphltd.com/contact.asp

Webb can probably give a precise I-81 exit for the location of Joe Hash's shop. It's about ten miles north of Staunton, VA (exit 220) on I-81. Call Joe, he'll be glad to provide directions.

I hope this is helpful, have a great trip!
