Road Trip Emergency Kit

What tools and parts are recommended to carry to ward off the break-down demons? I already carry a cell phone, extended towing policy, flash light and a wife (Krankenschwester).

We travel a lot with our Healey but we only carry a few spares that don't take up much space. For example: all new spare ignition parts, fuel pump, extra wire, digital multimeter, nylon tow rope, shop manual, flashlight(s), Moss or Victoria British catalog, Austin Healey Club membership roster(s), old copy of Hemmings Motor News. I do have a spare head gasket we have been carrying around for years, never have needed it but it doesn't take much space

We also travel with a laptop that has been very helpful for tracking down parts and suppliers. Yes, we have a cell phone and AAA RV plus (that's 100 miles of towing).

We try to leave with the car in good condition, we fix stuff that we think is marginal before we leave. .

We have had problems on trips, but mostly minor ones that don't need attention right away or that we can fix on the road ourselves. Carrying a mountain of spare parts is not a good idea. It will jam your Healey with extra weight and what fails will not be in your spares cache, Murphy's law applies ere.

Larry,
I carry everything mentioned above plus a lower radiator hose for my BJ-8. I figure I can make an upper from some other car, but the heater take-off would be a real problem in the boondocks. I also carry hydraulic rebuild kits and a spare voltage regulator. Everything, including a set of wrenchs, pliers and the common socket sizes fit in a normal sized tool box in the boot next to the spare. Does force most luggage into the back seat, but the kids are too big to be there anyway!

One of the items I like to carry is amalgamating wrap, available from Eastwood. It works well as an electrical tape and with 5-6 wraps will hold 100 psi. making a good temporary fix of a radiator hose so you can drive home.
The product bonds to itself and is not sticky. The size is equivalent to a roll of electrical tape.

Stubby wrenches, spare inner-tube, fan belt, latex gloves, oil, fuses, five feet of wire, flashlight in addition to the above stuff. I cut a 5 gallon bucket to 4 inches high ans it stores under the spare tire.

:driving: I wing it and hope that Healey 100 is in the area. He's on speed dial in my cellphone!

Those cheap disposable ponchos can come in handy and serve several purposes.

I forgot that I also carry two roters and a dizzy cap. I think these are the most likely to cause problems.

:savewave:

Did you take the rivits out of the rotors so they don't fail??---Keoke---

I got special ones that are blessed by the Healey gods. Don't need no stinking rivts.
WOT!

Hpw did they find out! Musta been some of them spiders crawling around this place----Keoke-

keoke, i also like to have with me a nice chunk of a 2x10/2x12 to place under the jack for when you must change a tire on ah soft shoulder can also be used as a wheel chock.

Just pray to the prince of darkness and offer up an offering, something like a prepaid invoice to the supplier of your choice for the rental of their entire stock to be put on standby during your travels

Thanks to all! Really helpful.
We had a great cruise last Sunday, to Palestine via Athens and ate in Little Mexico...a real international/Texas trip. Weather was great and no mechanical problems. Seven Healeys, one Solstice, and a chase van.
We did loose one Healey, (a famous Healey Club Member/Officer) in Palestine and have reported him to the local authorities...if found, there is NO REWARD being offered.

Everything mentioned before is great to put in the E-Kit. I found the perfect storage bag about 10 years ago. Zips open with many pockets and elastic straps to hold every tight. Best part is that its design to fit snug under the spare tire. Doesn't take up any valuable usable trunk spare.

Looked it up on line today and they're on sale! https://www.griotsgarage.com/p2p/searchRe...vals&page=1
