quick carburetion fix

It occurs to me we're paggerin' poor jaybird without grounds.

Where IS that girl, anyhoo?!?!
 
Bet them 4" stilletto's are stickin' out from under Emma's butt!
 
Short line suckin' air. Makes sense. Those later pump diaphragms are TOUGH.

Is it a solid state fuel pump? they dont stop ticking at all!
 
We're all "assuming" its the original one.
 
I don't freaking know what sort of fuel pump it is, but it isn't a vacuum/diaphragm/line problem. I have good fuel pressure at the lines. I wouldn't have that if I had an air leak somewhere.

And ha bloody ha but I'm not that stupid. I have a full freaking tank of gas that is just sitting there because I can't drive the damned car.

And the car sat there all freaking day with the bonnet up because we went to dason's house and watched his wife sleep all day (she had rotator cuff surgery yesterday) and we just got home. And tomorrow I have to go visit my mother-in-law that we just freaking saw on Christmas Eve.

Olwhatshisname still says it is the carb and he's not doing anything to Emma until we switch out the carbs. I say I'm about to switch out husbands.

As it stands now, he can go visit his mother tomorrow by himself and I'll get someone to come over here and help me with this car before I do something drastic.

And yes, I'm in a F-O-U-L mood. I'm sick of holidays, I'm sick of my car sitting and I'm sick of banging my head against the wall because I can't fix it.

I want to fix this problem MYSELF so I can say "HAH I SHOWED YOU" to olwhatshisname.
 
Janel - & don't yell at me - how do you know you have good fuel pressure at the lines?
 
I give up. 4 times I've written a reply and 4 times Charter's kicked me off.

I'm not yelling at you guys. I love you guys for sticking with me and trying to help me solve this problem. I'm just so incredibly frustrated & annoyed I could scream/cry/hurt someone.

I have good fuel pressure because olwhatshisname says I do and he's always right. *rolleyes* He told me again this morning when I suggested the problem could be at the other end of the car from the carburetor. He has checked the fuel lines, filters, pressure more than once (most recently last Friday he said) Filter, hoses, belts, lines were all replaced in Emma in August.

I don't have the OE fuel pump. DPO installed an electric fuel pump. I don't know exactly when, but I could find out from his records. That's not important anyway. It's not an SU. It's not a mechanical pump, it's an electric pump.

I don't know what to do any more. I've re-read this thread three times and I'm confused as to even where to begin any more.

Well, you've given us another piece of info - aftermarket electric fuel pump!

Toss the thread out & start again...& I'm also trying to decipher what Keenan's telling me! & now he's phoning with questions.............
 
Keenan has much more pressing issues than I do Tony. I have other vehicles to drive and he's a 17 year old with a broken car.

I thought the guys from Wichita car club (or wherever, Ryan Reis et al) were going up there to give him a hand?
 
I think Ryan is but everybody's going in different directions - & Keenan can't find a direction on which he can focus! & we still don't know what's wrong with his engine either.
 
And it doesn't seem like Keenan's dad has spent 5 minutes out there with the boy to try and help or at least give some moral support.

Keenan wants a spoiler on a car that doesn't have an engine. He needs to realize what his priorities are with that car.
 
All else said, I believe we have officially passed ANY possibility of a "quick fix"

Since it has been established that it is an aftermarket fuel pump, could the fuel pressure be too high? The aftermarket electric fuel pumps usually push more pressure than the ZS's need. Anything more than 2-3 PSI is too much. Maybe all she needs is a pressure regulator.

Shawn - could be..some of those aftermarket units go quite high...however, if that were the case, wouldn't she have too much fuel & be flooding out like crazy? Dumping fuel everywhere?

& if had been working for a year, why now to do something (if it is just too much pressure)?
 
Hiya Shawn, welcome to the insanity.

Remember what I initially said about the 'carb flooding out constantly?' And about the odor of gasoline when driving her (more times than not) and after she's parked?

And how she NEVER once, as long as I've owned the car, stopped ticking?

And what about the issues where she just 'died in the middle of the road' for no apparent reason? Like vapor lock or something. That has happened half a dozen times or so since it first happened on the way to Michigan mid August.

Hmmm. You know...dahubby was supposed to fill her up the last time he drove her (on a Monday to guys night at the garage) I drove her that following Thursday when she died at the post office.

Has anyone reccomended to remove the 4 screws and take off the top of the dashpot (the bell shaped cover with the oil damper cap, right on top of the carb) to see if the Diaphram of the piston is ripped?
You can then also carefully pull the piston up out and see if the throttle bore is wet with fuel.
If there is fuel coming up out of the hole that the needle goes down in with the ignition on, then you know that the float/ valve is not working.
I'm still stuck on the float because you initially said Emma was "flooding out"
